Sergio, your piece is drawing some attention. That’s good. And as I commented on your site, it makes perfect sense scripturally.

I envisioned a somewhat different scenario—which I believe is common in Western contemporary Christian marriages. In this variation, no one has abdicated their role, but spouses still encroach in the other’s “swim lane.”

The consequences in Gen 3:16 play out precisely because it’s two human beings joined “as one.” Yes, there is a wide gamut of marital experiences, but the penchant to “control” is built into sinful DNA.

Both spouses may be earnest in their desire to follow Jesus. This brokenness still follows them in this covenant relationship.
